Kelso 2s made the short trip to Tweedbank to play Fjordhus Reivers 4s. Reivers had no goalkeeper, so played with 11 outfield players and this extra outfield player was quickly apparent, with the home team enjoying a lot of territory and possession. The visitors’ defence stood firm, however, with some strong tackling from Sarah Turnbull and Lynn Dixon and the team kept working hard and were able to make some breaks into the Reivers half with quick passing and drives from the midfield. Towards the end of the first half Kelso won a penalty corner and got a shot on goal, but this was saved on the line.
Into the second half and Reivers continued to pressure the Kelso goal, but some excellent saves from Emily Mole kept the home side goalless. They also won a few penalty corners which Kelso's defence were able to clear and then in turn create some breaks into the opposition circle, the midfield and strikers working hard to put pressure on the Reivers defence. In the fourth quarter, Kelso were able to break the deadlock with Sammi Murdoch putting the ball in the goal with an excellent reverse stick shot. Reivers kept pressing, however and with two minutes to go they won a penalty corner and this time Kelso were not able to keep the ball out of the goal.
Full time score was 1-1 and Player of the match was Ginny Stewart.
