Our U16 Boys squad kicked off the start of our East District Development league in style at Meggetland on Sunday 28th September. The first time the U16 Boys have taken to the pitch in two years saw us run out winners against Edinburgh Hockey Club.
We have welcomed some new faces into a predominantly younger team this season as we look to build strength and depth into the squad for the next few seasons and we got off to a perfect start with a goal within the first couple of minutes. The starting XI really turned it on in the first quarter and ran out that first period 3-0 to the good with goals from Myles, Chris and Ollie.
That goal rush woke the Edinburgh side up and they came back into the game with some quick turnovers and good attacks down the left side of the pitch. Two goals from the opposition saw them down by just one at the half time break.
The third quarter was a tighter affair with both teams giving very little away. Short corners were awarded at both ends of the pitch with no success, however by the end of the 15 minute quarter the Edinburgh side had scored a further goal and were back level at 3-3.
A good team talk and reverting back to our starting XI saw us come out of the blocks firing on all cylinders. Some really nice play and quick transitions into attack saw us mirror the first quarter and score three goals - Flynn with one and Chris with another two, securing his hat-trick, to run out 6-3 winners.
It was a great start to the season, all should be proud of their performances on the pitch and we look forward to welcoming ESM to Kelso this Sunday (5th October) for our next game.
