Edinburgh Uni 5s travelled down on Saturday to face a strong Kelso side. Both teams began steadily and there was not much action until about ten minutes into quarter 1. Then Iona Thomson got the home side underway where she converted a long ball through from Emma Mack, confidently sneaking the ball past the Uni keeper.

Becoming a favourite PC for Kelso, Imogen JJ injected to Beth Laing on the left, who set Imogen up to control the ball and beat the defence giving her team a 2-0 lead.

Pippa Trotter ensured she got on the scoresheet giving her team the third goal of the match. A brilliant first touch allowed Pip to volley the ball straight into the net giving the keeper little chance to react.

Kelso had found their rhythm executing some impressive passing between channels, playing accurately to each other’s sticks, making Edinburgh Uni work hard for possession. The home team’s defensive line, made up of Mack, Pate, Laing and Murray, displayed great patience on the ball passing from channel to channel around the back maintaining possession not allowing the opposition many chances in their half.

Coming from a great space on the left side of the D, Erin White secured Kelso’s fourth goal using her pace to beat the defence to the ball and pushing the ball hard between the posts to make it 4-0.

Before the half time whistle, Lucy Murray stepped up to take a penalty corner from the left, which fizzed past the line of defence giving Kelso ladies a convincing 5-0 lead to end the first half.

A well worked PC saw Ruby Laing inject to Lucy on the left who placed the ball just wide of the post for Linsey Young to get a perfectly timed deflection into the back of the next to go 6-0 up.

The final goal to seal the deal for Kelso came from another penalty corner, Emma Mack confidently sweeping the ball out of the keepers reach into the bottom corner, sealing the win for her team to make it 7-0.

A great game which saw Kelso come together and work well as a unit and display some great skills and some excellent team play. Brilliant to see 7 different players on the scoresheet this weekend!
